§ 16-238. Streets and alleys.

  • All streets, curbs, gutters, and alleys and appurtenances thereto shall be constructed in accordance with the specifications established by the county road commission and the township engineer. In addition, the following standards shall apply:

    (1)

    Street type, minimum pavement width, and structural design standards.

    a.

    Major thoroughfares—In conformance with the standard specifications established by the county road commission and township board, but in no case shall the minimum be less than 24 feet in pavement width.

    b.

    Local streets—27 feet.

    c.

    Collector streets—40 feet.

    d.

    Boulevard streets—24 feet.

    e.

    Multiple-family residential streets—27 feet back to back of curb on 26 feet clear pavement.

    f.

    Turnaround (loop or "U") streets—26 feet.

    g.

    Cul-de-sac streets/turnarounds:

    1.

    Industrial—36-foot—60-foot radius at centerline.

    2.

    Residential and others—28-foot—40-foot radius at centerline.

    (2)

    Alleys. Twenty feet full width pavement in right-of-way.

    (3)

    Street pavement. All street pavements shall be designed for structurability of concrete and/or other acceptable materials as recommended by the state department of transportation specifications, but final design determination will be as recommended by the township engineer based on soil and drainage conditions.
